Your Dreams Matter!

When you were little, what did you dream of for your life?

How did you imagine spending your days, and who did you imagine you’d be sharing them with?

In my work, I have witnessed countless delightful dreams uncovered. Here are some that come to mind:

  • I’m sitting around my dining table in my cozy home with close friends, having a dinner party, laughing and talking for hours over delicious food and drinks.

  • I have a relationship I love and enjoy. We have so much fun going on adventures together, big and small! We often dance together like goofballs in our living room.

  • I visit my loved ones as often as I desire, and I regularly host get-togethers with joy and ease.

  • I live in a community I’m excited to belong to and invest my energy in.

  • I hike multiple times a week and get into the wilderness regularly to recharge and ground myself.

  • Each year, I visit two new National Parks, here or abroad. I will see them all in my lifetime.

  • I take a year off from working every 5 years to travel the world and share my journey in a blog.

  • I publish the children’s book I’ve dreamed of writing my whole life.

  • I volunteer in my community to ensure it is a place we can all love to live for generations to come.

  • I have plenty of time to garden, grow my own food, and design new recipes for delicious meals I share with others.

  • I have a successful business doing what I love, with people I enjoy, working 25 hours a week so I have time to live the rest of my life.

  • I quit the job I hated and finally started the career I always dreamed of but was discouraged from doing when I was young.

Dreaming is something very natural and imperative to humans. It lights us up!

Dreams inspire and mobilize us.

Take in your current surroundings for a moment.

Everything you notice that did not appear organically first began in someone’s imagination.

Someone, maybe you, dreamed of a solution, alteration, or an opportunity to make things better and started on a path to creation.

It’s easy to take for granted all the manifestations of dreaming around us and not fully appreciate that these dreams coming true are simply a culmination of countless tiny steps that make the reality you see before you.

We often ascribe specialness to people who make their dreams come true and assume they have magic powers for success. IT’S NOT TRUE!

Success requires action. Purposeful action needs intent. Intent is guided by a vision. And vision starts with a dream!

There are some distinct, universal themes I encounter when people dig deep and reveal their soulful dreams:

  • Loving partnership and family (chosen and/or family of origin)

  • A sense of belonging in meaningful friendships and community

  • Abundant time spent with loved ones and friends

  • Time and space to play, create, relax, and rest

  • Time and resources to focus on good health and getting out in nature

  • Making a contribution in day-to-day life that feels purposeful and rewarding through work, volunteerism, and other offerings

  • Time and resources to learn, grow, try new things, travel, and have adventures

  • The freedom to choose how and where to live their life

  • Financial freedom and abundance to make all of the above possible

What do you notice about these themes? Do they resonate with you?

Connection, community, love, belonging, time, health, freedom, purpose, choice.

These are the common qualities my clients tell me their dream lives are made of.

Life and the culture we live in can squash our dreams or guide us down a path that makes our visions feel unachievable.

When our dreams are squashed or atrophied, we often seek refuge in spaces, relationships, and life patterns that we hope will give us a sense of relief or the golden ticket to whatever shiny thing capitalism tells us will make us good enough. As we march along this path, we can lose our way and sense of self.

What’s your dream? I want to hear about it. You know the one.

Your dreams deserve your attention, nurturance, and protection.

Dearest, the world is a better place for us all when you set your compass on a path to your soulful dreams coming true!
